In today's fast-paced world, consumers want convenience for their online purchases. That is why more and more retailers are beginning to offer curbside pickup.

Curbside pickup allows customers to order online and pick up items from the store. It streamlines the process so that customers don't have to wait around in a long line while waiting to check out

Kuwait has been experiencing a growing demand for curbside pickup. This is because,

  • Consumers are shifting toward a mobile-first shopping experience.
  • Consumers want an easier ordering experience on the go.
  • The country’s extreme weather makes it an added need for today’s tech-savvy consumers to get the product delivered to them without leaving their cars.

Poixel finds the following industries to have a high demand for curbside pickup in Kuwait

Restaurants:

Curbside pickup services are most popular with restaurants, with demand growing since COVID-19. However, consumers have experienced delayed orders in curbside pickups, as the apps communicated the waiting and delivery time wrong.

With popular restaurants experiencing huge traffics during weekends and rush hours, curbside consumers can suffer. With proper developments in the UI, dedicated parking spaces, and coordinated efforts between the app and restaurant - the curbside pickup market will grow in the region.

Beauty and personal care

Female consumers love the convenience of ordering and getting it delivered to their car, especially when they are in a hurry or don’t wish to shop through a retail outlet or mall.

In a lot of Kuwaiti families, the average woman doesn’t work along with the husband to support the family, as it is frowned upon by the family members. Moreover, the majority of Kuwaitis hire foreign servants to take care of their kids. Hence, Kuwaiti women have immense time to enjoy themselves with friends and family by going to malls, restaurants, and more - leading to a boost in the sales of fashion products

Our research on the cosmetic and personal care market in Kuwait finds that half of the female consumers shop from websites. Hence, they prefer delivery over curbside pickup. Still, a good number of women order online and pick it up from the retail outlet. Women purchase and use several products. As a result, most can only shop once every two weeks. Few brands offer same-day delivery. With most Kuwaiti women having cars, it’s easier for them to order and pick it up on the same day, leading to a growth in curbside orders.

Fashion

Clothes and accessories are ordered when the consumer has clear expectations of how the final product will look and feel, which is crucial in the industry

When it comes to buying fashion items, there is no apparent majority preference for delivery alternatives, similar to that of beauty and care products. 38% prefer to choose the products themselves, a slim majority. However, 31% of consumers said they would choose the option that is most convenient for them.

Electronics and accessories

Consumers would research products, review them, and compare them to other brands before making a final purchase decision. Hence, people prefer to either shop in-store or get it picked up. Curbside pickup for electronic retail stores will work for products that consumers are well-educated of. For brands or products that require further research, consumers will shop in-store before purchasing the

Poixel find today’s consumer is well educated regarding the specifications, features, price, and related brands, making their purchase decision more decisive than ever before. Hence, this shall boost the growth of curbside orders in the electronic retail industry

Convenience store

Many of the consumers in Kuwait already order day-to-day food items from their cars from bakalas. For Trolley or similar brands, the curbside pickup would save consumers a lot of time. Most convenience stores are located in gas stations. In the time that consumers are filling up their gas, they can make a quick purchase on their mobiles and get it delivered to their car quickly.

Conclusion

In order to remain competitive and keep up with customer needs, premium retailers should consider adding curbside pickup. By offering customers this added convenience, retailers can increase customer satisfaction and ultimately boost their bottom line.
